The Corona Virus in 30 Seconds

Why does something like the Corona Virus happen? Random mutation? Possibly. Created by the Chinese? Possibly. But the ultimate reason there are diseases and pandemics (and people who create them) is The Fall... the fact that Adam brought sin into the world resulted in the corruption of everything.

For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it [as a result of the fall]... For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. - Romans 8:20 & 22

All of creation is groaning because of sin. Sin has corrupted everything. Viruses were originally created for good, and performed functions that were helpful. But as a result of the corruption of the world some viruses have become harmful.

Individuals are also corrupted by sin:

“There is none righteous, not even one: There is none who understands, there is none who seeks for God. All have turned aside, together they have become useless; there is none who does good, there is not even one. Their throat is an open grave; with their tongues they keep deceiving. The poison of asps is under their lips, whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood. Destruction and misery are in their paths, and the path of peace they have not known. There is no fear of God before their eyes.” - Romans 3:10-18

But things could be a lot worse. God is actively restraining sin and the effects of sin. In His goodness and love he is preventing the effect of sin from being as bad as it could be. God uses four means to restrain sin in our lives. He uses our conscience, our family, civil authority, and the church (the true church, not the Catholic church). All of these have been under assault and have been significantly destroyed, loosening the restrain on sin.

God is also restraining the effects of sin on the natural world. We see this in Colossians chapter one:

He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. Colossians 1:17

In the Old Testament we have a historical record that describes God's judgment as bringing about drought and floods (for example). Does God cause natural disasters? No. God is lessening His restrain on the effect of sin on the natural world, and things start happening as they naturally would. In other words, without God holding things together (restraining sin), things fall apart.

What Happens When God Reduces His Restrain of Sin?

Romans chapter one gives us the answer. It describes God's response to people rejecting Him as His giving people what they want, He pulls back and gives them less of Him. That's what has been happening in America and in most of the rest of the world. God does not fully turn people over to sin all at once. He lessens His restrain on sin a little, giving people a taste of what life is like without Him. If people do not turn back to God, He reduces His restrain on sin a little more. Step-by-step life gets worse, diseases spread, and society falls apart, until we turn to God, or Jesus returns. Here is how God describes this in Romans chapter one beginning with verse 24:

Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. 25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.

And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, slanderers, [v]haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.
- Romans 1:24-32

The corona virus is the result of sin. It is the result of a world that has been broken and corrupted by sin. The day is coming when God will end this corruption, and throw sin and death into the lake of fire forever. But, in His love He is waiting. Patiently waiting for you to turn to Him in obedience. To turn to Jesus Christ to save you from the just consequences of sin. He is waiting... but He will not wait forever. The end will come and that will bring the end of your opportunities to turn away from sin and trust in Jesus Christ to save you from sin.

GETTING A RIDE
ON THE ROAD TO LIFE

Romans Road

You will exist forever. The question is, where? Disobeying God is the road to death, and we have all disobeyed God:

For all have sinned [disobeyed God] and fall short of the glory of God. - Romans 3:23

The consequence of sin is death. You will exist experiencing death forever.

For the wages of sin is death... - Romans 6:23a

But there is GOOD News! You can have life!

...but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. - Romans 6:23b

God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. - Romans 5:8

Instead of our experiencing death forever, Christ died in our place. Repent (turn away from disobeying God), believe this, trusting that Jesus truly did die in your place.

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. - Romans 5:1
